Healthcare
In Burundi and Madagascar, as in much of Africa, access to health care, for the majority of the population, is very complicated, for many reasons. First of all, because the vast majority of the inhabitants, especially in Burundi, live in the rural areas of the country, where there are no satisfactory health structures; secondly, because many hospitals, especially public ones, are in difficult conditions, with a lack of both medical and paramedical personnel and of suitable equipment; finally, but perhaps the most important aspect,
access to health care, both public and private, is paid for, so that the majority of the population, who live in a state of poverty, non has the economic availability to access the services (visits, blood or instrumental examinations, drugs, surgery). This is especially true in the south of Madagascar, where, in addition to the economic precariousness and health facilities, there is also the diff
iculty of traveling on very difficult tracks and medium-long distances. During our missions we carry out visits to health centers in the two countries, outpatient services of various kinds, surgery. We carry out an average of two missions per year in Burundi, 1-2 in Madagascar. In addition to the professional commitment and skills of its volunteers, the Foundation, by Statute, also bears the costs of hospitalization and medical treatment of the needy, which represent about eighty percent of all patients treated in various capacities. The average cost for each hospitalized patient, including blood and X-ray tests, surgery, medical treatment, blood transfusions and the average stay of 15 days, is currently around 105 euros. As we can see it is a relatively low cost, especially when compared to the cost of our health care, but for many of them it represents an insurmountable obstacle. To help us support this project you can adopt a bed/year, in a single solution or with monthly transfers.
